I have a small mason jelly jar filled with rattle snakes. It is so full that they are all coiled together in the jar. I open the lid, which is a two-part sealer. I then try to get the lid back on with a stick but the snakes keep knocking it off with their tails. I can’t even get the sealer back on.

I called my friend and asked her to come over for coffee because I had something important to talk to her about. I told her my dream and its interpretation and the insights I’d had about her situation. I told her how I was feeling and about the link to my past. I also mentioned that I knew someone who could help her and who would keep her situation confidential. She was grateful I had consulted her first before contacting this person. She had been thinking over the situation herself since she had confided in me and had made her own decision about talking to someone who could help her. She felt much better, however, knowing that I was such a trustworthy friend and could keep a matter confidential. She knew that I cared enough about her to suggest a helpful solution without assuming a parental role. 
My friend did get help with her situation and things seem to be getting better for her. I still had some work to do with the insight about my childhood memory. I decided to call my mother and talk to her about this memory and my feelings. Normally, my mother would have scoffed at the emotional impact this dream had on me but this time she listened quietly throughout the whole thing. She said she was sorry that I had felt so bad about losing my friend. Then she reminded me that it was for the best and together we probably saved that friend from years of abuse; being deprived of her company was really a small price to pay. I totally agreed with her and felt a lot better after our conversation. My guilt about that early childhood incident has dissipated and I now feel more confident in my ability to have the discretion to know when and how a secret needs to be discussed. 
I realized how deeply that childhood experience had affected me. I had always felt as if some monumental and terrifying change would happen whenever anyone told me a secret. This dream and its interpretation helped me see that these fears were based on something that happened to me as a child and I no longer had to feel bad about it. I realized that what I had done had saved my friend years of pain and misery. I had been a sweet and strong child to bravely tell my mother about a situation that terrified both my friend and myself.
