“Dreams are perhaps the most highly personal expressions you have.”
I am sitting on the handlebars of a bicycle and the man sitting on the seat is pedaling as quickly as he can. He also has to speak quickly to keep me focused. Words and songs of wisdom are quickly pouring out of me. When I stop speaking or singing, the landscape changes and I return to an ordinary state of mind. At one point, we are skimming over water and people are listening to my songs. Then I stop singing, the bicycle sinks and we almost go under. I catch myself and start singing again; the bicycle rises up and we continue on our way.
I meditated every morning before I went to the studio. I found that this ritual reconnected me with my creative flow. The recording would then go smoothly and quickly, yet without a rushed feeling. Synchronistically, I bumped into a graphic artist friend of mine who wants to design my CD album cover.
I finished the CD in just one month. I could hardly believe it! It all happened so smoothly, like sailing over calm water. Whenever I would hear that little voice saying, “Quickly, Quickly, Quickly” I would stop what I was doing and meditate. That would get me back on track again; or as my dream depicted, I would feel the bicycle rising out of the water and moving forward once more..
Thinking about this dream and my experience of doing the CD, I realized that I had felt driven while working on it. When I live and write music at my own pace, I get more done and retain my creative centre. I am already thinking about my next album. My dream continues to help by reminding me that it is not the fast pedaling that keeps me afloat; it is to sing my song from that authentic creative landscape within.
